A
facebook event named LOOM LEELA came live in one of the hi-end hotels of
Gurgaon wherein ladies came dressed in sarees to mark the 100 saree
pact. This was started by two ladies in Bangalore and it went on like a wave in
North too.
This event was a brain child of Tripti Rathore (A rajasthani by
heart and an ex tourism office with govt of Rajasthan), Mridula Shekhawat, Neha
Rathore, Arparan Sarkar and Nimisha Singh. The preparations have been on for a
month. Gurgaon saree challenge was a successful online challenge where women
posted pictures of themselves wearing sarees. It sarted as a response to
bangalore’s 100 saree pact.
The event was rocking in terms of
many quizzes and stories that built around sarees and its draping. Power packed
performances were given by ladies in sarees who had to change from Indian to
western wear to keep the event lively and going.
Women also shared interesting
stories about the sarees. “Mom in law saris makes me look beautiful and sexy”
said one of the participants. While Monika chugh taksali who worn a zari saree
told us that saree she wore is part of family treasure which has been passed
over generations to preserve the rich culture. Saree is probably the only
Indian outfit that makes you look elegant and sexy at the same time.
Payal jain who wore after saree
after 8 years took challenge in letter and spirit. She wore a Zari border. She
was a bit uncomfortable and she soon changed to western dress for a
performance. There were also women from Delhi and Noida also who participated
and draped sarees in innovative fashion. Chavvi Mehta was the Diva- saree
marathon who wore seedha palla. Dr Aditi Bhatnagar-participated in dance
challenges in the show but soon changed to saree again to keep up the momentum.
Gunita singh came all the way from Jaipur to attend event. She wore
Rajasthan- shaded chiifon which looked amazing on her. Anubha jain – The winner
of Miss loom leela draped saree in Bengali fashion which complimented her
look too. Mamta Kamboj and Bebban Rekhi wore sarees in innovative fashion.
Thie event was an eye opener for
lot of women who have stacked sarees. Hey all ladies, lets your sarees breathe
too. Cheers.
